Morning Knows

Song #9
I came up with this chord progression yesterday morning and thought for a moment it was going to be one of those gift songs where it all comes together incredibly quickly. That was not the case. I played the chord progression for what seemed like forever trying to think of something to write about.
We had a sunny day today and I think that was the catalyst for what this song became.
I could definitely play around with this one more, but the lo-fi is ok for now.
Lyrics
Once moved with might, nothing was out of sight Carrying what I knew Now I search the night for traces of the light But all the stars feel new
I lost that shine, the spark that was once mine Felt too gone to break through But in your eyes I felt the fire rise And found some residue
The dawn pressed in, the dark grew thin No more buried hues I swore that time had altered my mind But morning always knew
I miss the days of running through the rain With nothing left to prove In my chest the kid I once was rests But he still beats his truth
I built my walls convinced I’d seen it all That nothing good was true Then love broke, I felt it once again And it’s ok, it’s you
The dawn pressed in, the dark grew thin No more buried hues I swore that time had altered my mind But morning always knew

This feels like a purely written “song” song, the real thing with all the proper elements but also purely natural expression straight from your heart. The reflective lyrics are so honest and relatable. The delivery is so calming and true and the melodic range of notes in your vocal is a highlight, the way you jump to a higher note right away is so inviting. Feels like a quiet Lennon ballad ala Plastic Ono Band album. This one’s definitely a keeper and one of my favorites you’ve written this year.
Wow man. this is great. I love the subtle keys in this. a great refrain. I like that the vocal performance is a slightly higher tone than you normally are in. It came out fantastic. This is an outstanding love song. The emotions hit all the notes. Looks like a great year for you again!
Regarding your first sentence in your liner notes...don't you hate it when you think it's all going to be easy, quick, and then it isn't? Glad you stayed with this because it's beautiful! The whole thing feels so organic, the melody is lovely, the lyric is so visually stimulating. Love the intimate quality of the vocals. Beautiful!
