They say write what's in your heart, so I did.
(Btw, Ecclesiastes, besides being the name of a book of wisdom in the Bible, comes from the Greek meaning "to participant in an assembly of citizens.” It seems appropriate here.)

Lyrics
Time to mourn for the children Who will feed them now that aid has gone away? And all because of decisions made by heartless, greedy men On a whim, with no thought, no compassion Time to mourn
Time to mourn for all the people who say they care And that they walk in the Savior’s way But whose actions reveal their hearts, full of darkness, maybe more ...Even hatred Time to mourn
Even if I spoke the language of angels But did not love others, what would I be? A noisy gong, or a clanging of cymbals Signifying nothing
Time to mourn for the planet, we are wasting All the precious gifts it gives Never looking at the long view, thinking only of the resources we can now exploit Time to mourn
Even if I had all knowledge, or faith to move mountains But did not love others, what would it get me? Absolutely nothing
In the end, all this will pass away, and what will remain? Faith, hope, and love
But for now, it’s
Time to mourn

You've an admirable job, first, of selecting out the appropriate 'time' phrase from the list of opposites; and secondly of putting together two Scriptures from radically different places and showing how they complement and support each other. I like the track a lot: the synths make a mellow, slow, reflective bed for your singing and recitations, and the solo breaks are expressive and keep things interesting.
Wow! I wasn’t expecting an electronic synth vibe from you!!! How cool! Love the synth lines and the percussion! What a great production! I love the lyrics and the singing and spoken parts - really effective! Fantastic!
The synth groove is great here and makes the anguish in the lyrics a little more palatable. The spoken word is a nice touch! Love the low-key Shakespeare reference in "signifying nothing" as well.
This is beautiful and tender in your presentation while being fierce and righteous in your message! I really appreciate your Truth and the way you specifically call out the many (most?) "Christians" who would gleefully turn Mary and Joseph away! "Christians" who would vote for a rapist. A felon. Essentially the antichrist!
I love that you addressed the hungry children and the suffering planet. I love, Love, LOVE how you call out the hypocrisy of some "Christians" while also mourning for them! WWJD? Exactly that! He would flip their tables in the temple but he would still love them and mourn for their straying.
Musically this is superb! As I first read your lyrics I loved them but honestly I thought "How is she gonna pull this off musically?" I must say I was quite impressed with what you did!! The music is perfect for this! Not too soft and not too loud...but perfect! And your vocals? Well, there are angels who would love to sing so well!
Thanks for sharing this song and telling me about it!
Full disclosure: I am not a Christian but I am a great fan of His work! Since you listened to my song Into The Fire (thank you!) I was wondering if you read my liner notes about my struggle with the use of Jesus in the chorus? My original wording, and what still remains in the audio, was more harsh and pointed than I really wanted. So I changed that section in the text of the lyrics but have yet to change the audio. My question, if you have a moment, is, does the edit seem to you to still pack a punch without blaming Jesus specifically? My intent is to shine a light on religion as having some culpability for our problems but NOT to single out and blame Him! I'd appreciate any insights you might be willing to share! Thank you!!
I was hooked right away by the synth groove. And then your bittersweet vocal kicked in, speaking/singing heartfelt and timely words - wow!
Great job here experimenting with some different musical tools, friend. Lyrically, this definitely hits home with how I have been feeling these days. Thanks for expressing it honestly here, and bringing it back to the Scriptures to ground your lament in what is ultimately true and will endure. I appreciate you!
Oooh, Deb, I'm really liking this. The musical backing is not your usual style, but it works. I like the hybrid approach, of quoting scripture and a sung response, but not in the typical cantor/congregation style. I've been talking with church friends about new musical styles and expressions and this exemplifies a new approach. And the sentiments are so you, in your lovely voice. Is this going on your Soundcloud so it would be available after FAWM closes?
A timely and powerful song. The lyrics are searing, and very well constructed. In addition to the title reference, I'm also detecting some 1 Corinthians and maybe some Mark 8:36 in there. I like the hint of optimism at the end. Very well done.
This one is full of the fire of mourning and pulls the old and new testament messages together so well...Name the feeling, feel the feeling, comfort yourself. That's what my friend who is a therapist tells me to do, and that's what you do here.
