Impressive Pile of Cheese

NSFW Skirmish: A Truly Impressive Pile o... (@ajna1960)

Liner Notes

#acousticonetake Determined to do a skirmish or two this year without agonizing over production quality, or any other quality for that matter, so I jumped on the first one I woke up to this morning.

Lyrics

Impressive Pile of Cheese

V1 Looking back at old FAWM songs I cringe a little, then a lot Some like Hallmark greeting cards Some like shitty poems That never found the plot

V2 Which ones should I edit Sorting them…in separate piles The cheesy ones are over here The decent ones go into My Work In Progress file

PC But that file’s pretty thin Guess the cheesy ones win

Chorus Well at least it gets my muse awake I guess So many awful lyrics I need to get off of my chest And though they really suck I’m sort of pleased At this impressive pile of cheese

V3 In FAWM there is forgiveness No harsh judgement…or critique It’s good to have encouragement And a smattering of applause So to speak

PC Again I crank out a slew But only keep a few

Repeat chorus

Bridge There must be at least one great song in me someplace And a rewrite just might turn some cheese into a fine soufflé So I’ll keep all these crappy ones just in case

Repeat Chorus

a person who has enough sense of self irony to write a doozie like this can just about write any kind of a good song.

@b3nut

If that ain't a FAWM theme song I don't know what is..."rewrite just might turn some cheese into a fine soufflé" nails it! Fine guitar playing and wonderfully sung, sir!

Love the take on the prompt! It is how many of us feel about our songs I reckon: Cheesy. But hey, listen to the radio and most of them are cheesy, in reality. Also a good reflection on the inner thoughts and critic of songwriters. Great guitar work as well.

@artie

Hey Jeff! Great approach to this song. I appreciate where you’re coming from lyrically. Very relatable and inspiring, as well as being delightfully performed.

So happy fawm comes back around I get to hear all your music. I just love all your songs. I'm still trying to figure out exactly why, but if I had to put one word to it I would use the word smooth.

The line

"And though they really suck I’m sort of pleased At this impressive pile of cheese",

o man, this is perfect. I know this is a fawm meta song, but regardless I can relate so much as I'm sure everyone here does, and you nailed it perfectly. Great hook. You need to re-org your files and put everything back into the souffle cause you are cooking.

I imagine that all of us lyricists have a whole pile of crummy writes! Now we have a song about them! Thanks!

@cbmagic

I have to agree with you I have a pile of cheese and small pile of keep. But we have to keep cranking them out. This Fawm has started me back writing when I joined last July after a friend refered me to it. She found my old stack and saw the date that were back in the 80s and said I sould start writing again.

Wonderful way to clear the way for your muse this FAWM. Love the quality of your voice and the guitar work.

[avatar]

Your voice always makes any song you write and I listen to sound divine 😀 I think it perfectly suits the style and semi melancholy subject in this case. We should do a FAWM collab maybe sometime - I write lyrics lol

Great "first fruits" type opening song. I bet most of us can relate. Terrific vocals and playing on display in this demo, I love it!

What a clever take on this skirmish prompt!! I just love the concept of dividing our songs into piles of decent ones and cheesy ones! And HOLY SMOKES, your delivery of this awesome song is really stupendous! Your voice just blows me away! If I ever grow up and learn how to sing I wanna sound just like you! Super work on this skirmish Jeff!

@nadine

The first FAWM meta song I hear this year. The lyrics are so great. Not a pile of cheese!

@erbaer

Great take on the prompt! I like how you brought it into the moment. Great one!

This made me smile this morning, as I sift through my cheese. I certainly feel the idea of "So I’ll keep all these crappy ones just in case" because...one day, one day, we're having that damn soufflé! Thanks - great start.

@debs

What a beautiful energy flowing through this - an introspective, smiling ray of sunshine. I actually really like the production on this, it's very clear and easy to listen to.

A lovely ode to the fantastic if slightly cheesy side to fawm!

Ooh, a very thoughtful lyric and one that chimes with me very much. My partner immediately said "If Johnny Cash sang about cheese...". Marvellous take on the prompt sir, nice one 😊 PS the guitar sounds wonderful- what is it?
