Anyone Who Isn't You

Liner Notes

I don't do love songs. This is not a love song, it's more of an #antilove song. I bet you know someone it could be about... the kind of person that sucks the energy from any room they're in. I am ashamed to say I had a specific tedious person in mind... Don't worry, it's not you.

Sometimes I write a thing and then get the decent recording kit out and do a proper demo. Sometimes it's just straight to laptop, slouching, #live_from_the_sofa with a #ukulele. This is the latter. #fuc

Lyrics

I love to see the way the light Reflects upon your back I love to hear your voice When it says you're making tracks

I love the sound the chair makes As you shift it on the floor I love the way your feet Gently walk towards the door

The squeaking of the hinges Makes a sound that's oh so sweet When it's followed by your footsteps Fading out along the street

The way that you look smaller As you disappear from view How I love to spend my time With anyone who isn't you

Do you see the way I look at you As you walk into the room? Do you see it in my eyes Will it all be over soon?

I wonder can you fathom The joy you bring to me When I'm finally rewarded With a moment's blessed peace

I love the way you move your arms When putting on your coat The way you say goodbye After clearing your throat

The way that you look smaller As you disappear from view How I love to spend my time With anyone who isn't you

I love an anti love song and this is a great anti love song.

I have to wonder if that kind of person would understand this silly song. But we do and it’s great. We all have a person who makes us happy when they disappear from view.

Hahaha! These are such hilariously funny lyrics. The nicest anti love song I ever heard !

Oh my gosh, this is a riot! Very clever lyrics, and I love the guitar picking for it. Well done! I also want to thank you for your comments on my "Daddy My Daddy" lyrics.

"I love the way your feet gently walk toward the door... the way you say goodbye after clearing your throat"... This is hilarious, with sticky details, and your music + delivery really sell it. And I wish I sounded this good when I was slouching 😅

I like how you've used the start of so many statements that are often continued with a positive, and then turned them on their heads. The music contributes nicely to the deception.

The humor is evident from the first couplet, but it doesn’t come across as a “joke” song. I can definitely relate! Great picking, good rhymes, clear vocals — it’s a really tight package. Nicely done (and I just noticed another comment uses the same phrase, which I didn’t see until after I wrote it, so it must be true). So many great lines that twist the knife (gently), I can’t pick just one or two.

Nicely done. Reminds me of Weird Al's "One More Minute."

Vicious 😀 The sound of the door hitting them on their way out, right? And yes, we definitely all have that person

Of course we know them! What acnice way to say I love it when you F O. Ha ha very clever ! You could be confused if you didn’t listen properly it sounds like a love song! Funny, pretty music and clever. This would be a fun live one to slip in!

Ayyyyyy that's what I'm talkin about

I genuinely wasn't sure how to react to this - laughing or sighing. You sang it so damn sweetly that my brain got confused. Nice use of interesting chords. I feel like a sad kazoo solo in the middle might give this a tiny bit of more obvious levity, but other than that, it has a delightful sense of disconnect. I feel like it's a cousin of cheery-ose (look it up if you haven't heard the filk term yet).
