Happy Valentine's day!! Don't get taken for a ride!! Note: I had posted this one earlier, but in an apparent lapse of intelligence, I accidentally deleted it that same day as I was trying to update the MP3..

Lyrics

Took Me For A Ride. by Gary Ray Knowland

I'm a man... yeah yeah And I used to have my pride But she took me... Lord, she took me for a ride oh.. yeah

I fell so hard... I simply could not see Baby baby... You really took it all from me

I've been running round in circles I've been living in a dream It's time I stopped myself from drowning Re-gain my self-esteem Take back my self-esteem

Been so long....yeah yeah Since I've said whats on my mind Yeah she took me... Lord, she took me for a ride oh .yeah

I tried so hard... mmm hmm I thought I played it all so cool I was blind.... And she played me for fool

I've been running round in circles I've been living in a dream It's time I stopped myself from drowning Re-gain my self-esteem Take back my self-esteem

Yeah she took me... Took me for a ride oh..yeah Yeah she took me... Lord, she took me for a ride
Oh she took me... Oh she took me for a ride oh....oh ooo

A recovery-from-love song ! This is beautifull. I hear the guitar, bass and battery say it's gonna be allright. But the fiddle and the saxophone say you would be ready for another ride... So much passion in those solos !

So in-the-pocket country here. Nailing the vocals and instrumentals here. Great production.

Great vocal, great Lyrics, great melody, great instrumentation, great production - Guess that makes this a great song then. :-) (That fiddle is awesome) :-) #tit4tat

I shure do like this song, Greyhand. You got a damn fine country voice and a knack for writin' mighty fine sad lyrics! Also I love all of the instrumentation you did in here, especially that bit O mando! And I can relate to being taken for a ride! One time I was taken for a ride on the bumper of an Amazon Prime delivery truck! X-C-lent work here (as always!)

Damn, I fell in love with this song before I even got through the intro! That's a helluva awesome way to start a song!! Your vocals are all kinds of ACES on this one! You get better and better at the writing! The singing! The performance! The production! It is all Top Drawer! I just LOVE the title/hook and how you sing it is stellar!!!

This is way too good for some ordinary guy from Ohio to create in his home studio! No one listening could possibly believe that! But I do because I KNOW Gary Knowland! And this dude has ALWAYS had it going on! He has NEVER been an ordinary guy! He has absolutely ROCKED pretty much anything and everything he set his mind to!

Awesome work here, Gary! This is how it's done my brother from another mother!

I love the ensemble here - the opening medley of fiddle - mandolin - sax is magical, and it perfectly sets up the entrance of those lovely doubled vocals.

The lyrics are a perfect blend of chagrined reflection ("shame on me") and resolved accusation ("shame on you"). The way you follow up that first "take back my self esteem" line with the mean sax interlude conjures up an image (for me) of a guy saying "Screw you. Watch me play the heck outta this here sax!"

Production is polished to perfection. I don't know how you do it.

This sounds so finished and completely relaxed at the same time....I was struck by the way switching to that You in the second section ups the intensity. I would usually try to avoid switching from SHE to YOU, but here it feels like it captures this slip from the kind of detached, summarizing "I've learned my listen" into the "Damn you, I'm still mad and hurt, and yeah you did this. Then there's that regaining of composure and distance. It really does feel like that process of recovering and the way that it's a little rocky.

Love the intro with the violin, mandolin and saxophone. Love these vocals and the harmonies! I am enjoying how the violin weaves around the vocal melody. It also helps with the rise in the chorus. Really wonderful playing. I do think I have heard and possibly commented on this one before, but I am really enjoying listening again. Nice stand up bass also. You are a one-man band!
