Don't Tell Her (The Walk)

Skirmish: "DON’T TELL …” Yourself, ... (@corinnecurcio)Liner Notes
I habitually flip-flop between overly-earnest singer-songwriter pieces and cheekily-stupid ukulele tunes. I haven't done any of the latter so far this month, so...
I came upon this skirmish late and thought it a good opportunity to dust off my neglected uke and tell the sad sad story of my poor mutt every time I go near an exterior door without first consulting her.
Took about 30 minutes to write and rehearse, then close to an hour to get a demo without flubbing the uke.
Lyrics
I'm going for a walk Don't tell the furry figure on the couch I'm not in any mood to scoop waste Into a plastic pouch
Just a stroll But don't let those canine ears Hear my cold betrayal While I leave her stranded here
Oh no, What's a neglected pup to do Oh my But deploy saddest puppy eyes Oh dear She's onto me I fear And I'll pay for my duplicity For she'll refuse to sit for me
Tiptoe through the room She meet's me at the door And gloomily conveys that There's no trust here any more
It's so close The leash is lonely without collar Is it such an imposition Would I leave her here in squalor
Oh my heart, The poor dog's life has come apart The pain Her tail will never wag again Look away, From my W-A-L-K And my dishonest obfuscation Of clastestine ambulation
It's all over She tried and sadly failed To guard my fragile person While I went to fetch the mail

And my dishonest obfuscation Of clandestine ambulation Dang good lyric writing! The whole song is brilliant, but this phrase is something special.
Lovely. Light hearted tune matches the uke perfect. Love the spelling out of W A L K as all dog owners now. and the line dishonest obfuscation of clandestine ambulation. Like wow,.... i can't even, great bringing those words together. Perfect build up, i kinda caught on toward the middle of the song but hitting the last line with "while went to fetch the mail" is perfect. Love your smooth delivery and song writing style. Another great one.
This is awesome! I'm a dog owner (two rescues) and I too seem to gravitate to uke for tunes like this. So fun - your voice is sweet changes and the chord changes are nifty.
Oh I feel this song deeply. I love going for walks but I don't always want to take my somewhat elderly dog with me. A bittersweet little song which is just perfect with ukulele accompaniment. The recording quality is so crystal clear too. Remind me what equipment you're using?!
Well, as we roll into a warm spell this week, here in Michigan, we shall inevitably enter the realm of hidden dog poop in the lawn. We live with our daughter's dog (and our lovely daughter), so I completely related to so many things here. Spelling out WALK and the horrendous act of leaving the dog while the mail is checked. This was fantastic. Wonderful uke playing too! :)
An intriguing little song. I love how you built upon the intimate and fragile bond between human and K9. It so much makes me want to get a dog and re-establish this bond I miss so much. A nice, clear, simple arrangement with the uke… a delightful little journey. Good job!
Love the lightness of touch in the writing, and goodness what a lovely sounding vocal! ‘Dishonest obfuscation of clandestine ambulation’ is quite obviously brilliant, I’d be v pleased if I’d written that :)
This is very sweet. I also appreciate the uke flubbing story. It gives me hope.
Some great rhymes! Very impressive for a skirmish! Vocals and uke sound good!
