Entangled

Liner Notes

HFO says: It's time for one of my regular collabs with @metalfoot and as I'd just picked up the BBC Radiophonic Workshop library from Spitfire Audio, I threw lots of it at this as enthusiastically as I could. The results take us in a different direction to our usual fare, but both our musical predilections are still much in evidence...

metalfootnotes: Creepy whisper for the win! I found the track that Chris had sent me to feel dreamlike so that's what I went for lyrically and musically.

Lyrics

Lost in thoughts, my mind is whirling I don't know why all is swirling

Dreams forsake me I lie awake Though sleepy

Entangled in my bed Fighting the fears in my head

Silently my pulse is racing Even though my feet are not pacing

Morning breaks and I am drained I don't know why I can't shut down my brain

@gb9

The music just amplifies the angst of the one waiting for sleep, waiting for racing thoughts to stop.... Nicely done

I was sure you would be using the BBC Radiophonic library, very 60s/70's sounds. A mix of Dr Who/ Pink Floyd and King Crimson šŸ˜€ The vocals are very good. So much space in this. The lyrics and music go together very well.

Anxious insomniac solidarity! I love all the whooshing wind sounds and the orchestration, particularly the fake choir (Mellotron?)… the guitar too is so restrained and so good. And that whispered backing vocal. It’s just so well put together. You sound incredible on this, Alex. I felt the desperation and isolation. Everything has a wonderful sense of space and this amplifies the drama.

@leepat

quite the spooky-go-round. proggy indeed. I kept hearing ā€œsleep.. evades meā€ but apparently I didn’t?!

Well, this is both creepy and lush. The textures in both the instruments and the vocals are brilliant. Great stuff both of you!

The vocal layers are a standout, really adds a lot to this, the music is like from another dimension slowly moving in!

yeah dreamy maybe a touch eerie that music. you've matched it up well Alex, nice slow aeach line meticulously laid out. nice collab

Very theatrical, this is an epic dream sequence screaming out for inclusion in a brand new stage production. Maybe with set design by H R Giger. I’d go and see it šŸ•¶

@edwinb

Well these are some familiar feelings, and the creepy whisper is just right for the middle of the night dark thoughts.

Spooky middle of the night insomniac angst channeled āœ…

I don’t know why I can’t shut down my brain either…relate so hard to this

@jjmickey

This is haunting and very nice! The creepy whispers add a very nice touch to the vocal melody.

Genuine frightnight stuff. In a proggy way kinda way. I pipe organ AND male voice chorus? You're spoiling us guys. Special mention to those little spot major chords on the guitar to throw everything else in evil relief!

@miga

It really does sound like a sleepless, anxious night. Love @metalfoot 's tenor melody joined by a chorus (so it seems, of whispers etc) when the "dreams forsake me" part comes in. I also enjoy the major and minor chords. Very effective.

This is so epic and cinematic. There is a whole movie in that little rock operetta. Well done team.

Wow. Wasn't expecting this, and it's enthralling. What a tremendous collab. Love the whispers and the combination of voices is so good. Got lots of @headfirstonly atmospheric goodness.

I sbsolutely love this production. Every piece of it pulls you in. The sounds created are just so mesmerizing to follow. The vocal delivery with haunting echo is perfect for this! Fascinating song! - Natalie

@sapient

Took me a minute to stop thinking about how wonderful it would have been to hear @metalfoot singing over early 1970s Dr Who...🤣 Blimey. This is a bit good. Hints of Dream Theatre, of Queensryche, of Nevermore. What a rich pallette of sounds. All building in a way that makes my skin crawl... Darn it, chaps, you've only gone and pulled a blinder!
