Lyrics

I am a Survivor Lyrics: Andrea Brennan Music, vocals and production: Bruce Kenyon

V1 Standing at your grave site I am fearful and cold You weren't supposed to leave me I'm just eighteen years old

V2 The world is a monster I will now face alone But I have your love inside my heart And your strength inside my bones

Chorus I am a survivor I'm ready to fight Dark times lay ahead But my will burns bright I am a survivor And I'm ready to fight With an angel watching over me I know I'll be alright

V3 Silent tears sting my eyes As I resolve to go Heading off towards my future Down an uncharted road

V4 Mistakes they may find me With every wrong turn But I will keep (on) growing stronger With every lesson I learn

Chorus I am a survivor I'm ready to fight Dark times lay ahead But my will burns bright I am a survivor And I'm ready to fight With an angel watching over me I know I'll be alright

Bridge You were my nest and oak tree My sanctuary My river and compass Always guiding me And every heartfelt stitch In our woven tapestry All of these things All these memories (optional L7 or L8) Live on in me

Chorus I am a survivor I'm ready to fight Dark times lay ahead But my will burns bright

I am a survivor And I'm ready to fight With an angel watching over me I know I'll be alright

Great positivism behind this both lyrically and musically. You had me from that opening stanza. I was immediately dragged back to being 16 and standing at my Mum's graveside. She had died from injuries received in a car crash, aged 36.

Such an uplifting vibe - even at the start, when you do not yet know "I am a survivor I'm ready to fight" only that they were left alone. Inspiring lyrics - and so well put to music. Well done, folks.

Geting that 80's feeling, with the uplifting message and the roaring guitar line. It is an inspiring story that the good thing in a relationship will keep on with their magic through loss.

Yes, this is a song about resilience. The lyric is concise and hopeful and so is the music. The vocal and music has an upbeat vibe that reinforces that hopeful sentiment. #tit4tat

I like how clearly you convey the pain of loss with the empowering sense of survival and gaining strength from tragedy. The music is fabulous. Fantastic sound and production!

This was quite a hard listen for me as I wasn't much older when my mum died and I really identify with some of it - especially the first verse! The rhythm really drives the song and you encapsulate the battle well with your lyrics. I love the line "you were my nest and my oak tree - amazing images in the bridge. The constant turning from darkness to hope works well. #tit4tat

Your lyrics on this are superb, full of emotion as the story unfolds.

The music is brilliant, to get something this polished has to involve some serious production. The vocals too are well performed.

Really well done.

Some serious quality in this song. The singing is perfect, the positivity in the song's message perfectly matches the groove of the instrumentation. I really like the rhythm with the silent 3rd beat, and the little hiccup just before the first chorus was nice to focus the attention to the chorus there. Also very nice how it slowly winds down at the end.

You have some very nice imagery here. The music suits the lyrics very well. I like this one! #tit4tat

@ragbag

The pain of loss is palpable in the lyric - yet you choose to move forward on a positive note. You focus on the strength that was instilled in you and carries on in your memories of that person. Strong and hopeful stuff - Ably set to music, played and sung, this makes for a powerful and uplifting song. :-) #tit4tat

Like the uplift of the lyric, and love the uplift of the production. The chiming piano is one of my favorite elements.

Bruce's singing is doing such great justice to the phrasings of the lines!

In the bridge the slightly greater openness allows me to appreciate the synth pad, with its spectral quality that sets the scene of open space. Congrats on that choice for while we experience oak tree, river, compass, nest.

This sounds great. Very good delivery and well sung. Great collab! I'm liking the lyrics, and the vocal phrasing.

Overall a very positive song. The lyrics make me feel that there's someone very grounded and stands strong whatever may come. The music feels a bit Springsteen-ish to me, straight and harmonic. Well delivered!

Thanks to listen to my Where did you go collab, I did with @greengrassgirl. Thank you for leaving a nice comment!

Such hopeful words and hopeful music for such a difficult topic. I connect so much with the hope that you’re expressing about a challenging future, and I’m sure I’m not the only one. Your imagery with the oak and the angel makes it clear that you have much protection in dangerous times.

This sounds great. The performance and mix are both very good. I like the positive message and uplifting chorus. I also like that the lyric is displaying strength but doesn't gloss over the mistakes and wrong turns along the way. Well written, both of you.

Really empowering lyrics, that aren’t cheesy. That’s hard to do. What a killer collab!

Great collab! Really good lyrics and such a pleasurable listen. Well done, you two. The performance reminds me of that musician character from Love Actually, except WAY better in every way.

Very beautiful song and collaboration. Gorgeous lyrics, music, singing, playing and production. Very special song. Very inspiring. Such a pleasure to listen to.

A EPIC production and song. Love these lyrics. They are so clear and well crafted. Such a positive sentiment applied to a challenging situation. I definitely appreciate the resilient attitude expressed. Musically, you crushed it. Love the bass and guitar work. Vocals are tops too. Killer solo...can't forget that. What a collab!
