Let's Take An Intermission
by @vomvorton
Liner Notes
I had this title on my list of Songs To Write, but then I used it as a lyric in my collaboration with @zecoop and figured it was off the list. But then I recorded this riff that I've been kicking around all month and I needed SOMETHING to sing about and it fit the bill, so here we are! A little overlap never hurt anyone. And anyway they're very "ugh it's the last day and I'm out of steam" lyrics so who knows, maybe I'll even rewrite at some point.
#fuzz #indierock #shoegaze (kinda, a little bit, not that much)
Lyrics
I don't mind that you can't make up your mind but I hate all the confusion in your eyes
I don't care if you want to sit and stare, I've had all the conversation I can bear
you wanna talk about it I wanna talk about it maybe we could shout it? you never seem to doubt it we need to document the borders of the argument who threw the ornament the winner of the tournament
it's the end, whatever we pretend, I've run out of positions to defend take a break, keep your calm for goodness sake, let's take an intermission, don't call it a break

I feel this whole vibe. "I've run out of positions to defend" is such a mood all by itself. Oof. Good stuff!
Oooh, I love the movement of this guitar lick, especially when it moves up, and that change right before the vocals comes in is chef's kiss And that "you wanna talk about it" breakdown is super cool, as is that nice wobbly synth line.
Just put them on the same album and pretend it's connected to some arch concept! As no-one appears to have mentioned the guitar riff yet, I'd just like to say it was very enjoyable. I also love the little synth countermelodies throughout the verses.
That really is a belter of a guitar riff. It lifts the track whenever it returns. The drums are great on that bit. The spoken word section works really well too. It may not be your most loved, but there’s much to love.
I do love this one. I've listened to the instrumental version 10 times, and that's great too. The "talk about it" vocals are awesome here, when you take the music down. Delicious guitar and synth. Document the borders of the argument!!
It wasn't a break! Love the muting for the chorus and the low grumbled vocals, love the layered synths on the verse and how they interweave.
That is indeed an excellent riff that I'm glad you hung onto. Nice splashy beat as well. The duelling synths in the verses are really cool, they act as loose vocal harmonies in a way. The 'break down' bit is really cool, especially as it kicks back in with the killer riff.
Man, I was really loving the whole sound. I listened to the first minute and then thought, this should really be a song about self-cannibalism. I pressed pause and free-styled some words, which actually won't fit with your song. But heck, it's shoe gaze, so maybe. I didn't finish listening because the bell rang and I realized I was late for a class I'm covering. Last day of FAWM distorts my sense of time. I'll be back:
I eat myself So you don’t have to Minute by minute I find myself diminished (Though that description might be too antiseptic)
Oh Othello, I hear you “Leave me but a little of myself,” you said But I want to take it to all the way to zero (all the way down)
I’ll eat my skin Eat my knees Eat my lungs Try to reach the feet Eat my tongue Can’t eat the teeth Minute by minute I find myself diminished (Though that description might be too antiseptic )
Wait, did I misunderstand? Leave you but a little TO yourself! Gotcha! My bad
a strong finish (I assume there no last last min songs to come??)
the drums are sounding great here, I assume it you?
It’s a great riff, glad you managed to get it in there this year! The mix sounds great too, is this all still the tiny guitar amps? Love the breakdown (and buildup into outro!)
(It would be funny if the song came back in after a brief intermission at the end😂)
Aha, I recognise this track! Were you by any chance listening to "Service" by Silver Sun prior to writing that intro drum fill? I love that "who threw the ornament" line, imagining a shot-put event with lobbing priceless vases.
