Eric: I'm infatuated with Monte Booker's production style. (See "Blossom Dearie" by Ravyn Lenae for an example.) I wanted to write something that had at least a bit of that feel so I put together some warm synth sounds and some percussion. Then I asked @theodamus to write words and music and they BLEW ME AWAY with what they created.

@theodamus I love collaborating with you Eric! So happy we got to do it again - we always go really left field and different. Loooved what you sent, though it took me a while to think up what I wanted to do - a very different style for me and not one I’m used to writing or singing in. Turns out doing it really late and night and quietly so as not to wake housemates worked out ok!

The lyrics are very loosely inspired by Mulholland Drive - it’s one of my favourite movies and it's been on my mind with David Lynch passing recently. While it's arguably a horror movie, it's told like a dream, and within the dream there's a warm, happy love - so whether or not you believe it’s happening in the "reality" of the movie, it feels like it - that’s what matters, right?

Lyrics

We're out too late And too high up Above the trees a lake Or parking lot Too far away to tell the difference

Call up your place talk to myself Forgot your name or made it up Too close to tell how it hits

You and me in split screen (and it hits) Living in between the neon minute to minute (it isn't this) You and me alone in every other eon (and it hits) moment to moment like this (in moments like this)

Another day Remember how You wake me, what you say Or how it breaks Too far away to tell the difference

You and me in split screen (and it hits) Living in between the neon minute to minute (it isn't this) You and me alone in every other eon (and it hits) moment to moment like this (in moments like this)

We're out too late And too high up (and it hits) Above the trees a lake (and it hits) Or parking lot Too far away

This is such a brilliant collaboration! I love the syncopated feel and the gorgeous synth sounds and rhythms. The layered intertwined vocals are so lush and beautiful. I love the flow of this melody, the gentle expression, and the lyrics that do such a brilliant job capturing the nuances of a relationship. Wonderfully poetic.

That second voice that comes in with Talk to Me is so powerful. It became for me at that point about the comfort of having a narrative streaming in your head. This being and watching yourself be at the same time. It has a David Lynch quality. Ominous without my understanding exactly why.

Everything is so smooth in this song ! The production is almost fluffy and the voice drowns in it voluptuously. The lyrics fit perfectly with this mood. I hate neon lights but you managed to make something very poetic with it. Congrats !

very atmosphericmusic and vocal which suits these thought piece lyrics. nice slow place , very fusion I keep thinking a genre and then it moves on

this song is as mysterious as a david lynch movie, and like a lynch movie, it can be fully enjoyed without fully understanding it. i love the understated chill groove and the vocals that often split their personalities.

This is somehow lounge-jazz, house, lo-fi, indie-pop, and funky all at once. I love the vocal breaks for the chorus and the super-chilled out instrumentation. This feels like a dream. Reminds me a lot of this album by florist, a personal favorite of mine for this kind of vibe: https://florist.bandcamp.com/album/the-birds-outside-sang

@wynia

The at-times low throaty vocals makes for a neat effect over the sparse lo-fi accompaniment. Also love that low organ synth

i don't know the movie but i like the floaty space of this and the abstract lyrics add to that unanchored drifty headspace while listening. those little woop sound synth got me hooked in early on, i love the low key vocals and the music sounds LUSH. great collab!

This is so bubbly in the smoothest way! It has the kind of momentum that pulls you forward while anchoring you in place simultaneously. The warmth wraps around like a blanket, but some of the horror stays as well, hiding between the neon. So well written, composed, and performed! Props to you both! This was absolutely wonderful to listen to ❤️

Portishead anyone? Such a combination of talent. That song wove a thread into my psyche. An earworm I believe it's called. 😁

Love the leisurely pacing of the music and the trippy tune itself ... a great performance!
