YARDSTICK music & lyrics @aaisyahh
Well it’s cold in late December But my heart feels so alive I’m old but now I know That I got time
And you speak with no pretenses so’It comes as no surprise You're just another man looking For a wife
I could tell you of the virtues (of) Living life so free But I know you crave stability So I’ll write into existence, Make myself believe That there can be a future for you and me
A housewife and a family I’ll cook rice the way you like, be home by three Writing songs in my diary
Oh my darling, I I wish we had more time I wish you’d put the yardstick away
Oh you hope find someone To love you til you die But darling I keep running away Cuz I can’t measure up anyway But I wish you’d wait, you’d wish I'd stay
Oh the winds have changed The winter’s getting warm And I’m across the globe all alone
Oh and I won’t say You’re what I’m looking for Anything to keep you on the phone Only eight more months til I’ll be coming home
You hope find someone To love you til you die But darling I keep on running away But I wish you’d wait, you’d wish I'd stay Cuz I can’t measure up anyway

Fine song about different perspectives. Love your voice.
This really tugged at my heartstrings. Two people looking for different things...The singing was lovely.
Fantastic lyrics, and performed beautifully. Thanks for sharing!
Nice, sung with emotion and played very well. Like this song
The yardstick metaphor is genius and deployed beautifully. Great specifics (I'll cook rice the way you like). And that last stanza is especially nicely done.
It feels like this was written from a real place of vulnerability. Very nice.
I adore the narrative voice, so full of honesty and nuance. The complexity of this authentic character shines through in your every emotive note.
Amazing
Good title, strong lyric and well delivered! Equals a really nice song!
I've gotta shout out the title choice. It's intriguing before listening, and during/after, it's a nice little emphasis on what this story is about.
Love your vocal delivery too, of course!
Wow! I love the longing expressed for both lasting love and freedom; you say it so well. Great start and welcome.
Was really enjoying this, but there's such a beautiful elevation around the 'Oh the winds have changed' that I really zoned in on. Beautiful track, and beautifully sang.
Wow, what a sweet reflection on the yearnings that emerge in what feels like it could be a date or series of dates. All that crazy pressure of measuring and being measured and the longing to be desired even by the wrong person. Your voice feels like an old favorite singer from a mix tape that also had Edie Brickell, Joni Mitchell, Dar Williams, and Tori Amos on it. Looking forward yo hearing lots more.
Gorgeous lyrics, delivered delectably. Some brilliant rhymes. Great stuff!! Welcome to FAWM indeed
Wonderful story telling, song crafting and such a great song concept. The melody is really beautiful and so are your vocals. There is nothing quite like the first take of a newly written song, and your live recording was so enjoyable to listen to. Welcome to FAWM!!
Such longing. Poignant and beautiful performance with brilliant lyrics. The line with the waiting and the staying has wonderful parallelism and works so well for the chorus.
Oh wow, love the story in the lyric, it's such a fresh approach for a love song! Beautiful vocals and playing, and I love your excitement at the end. And welcome to FAWM! 😊
Wonderful first song. Beautiful vocal delivery. There’s a serious and heavy feel to the lyrics that shattered unexpectedly with the outburst at the very, which lightened the air. Well done…
You've got an instant fan right here. This is gorgeous! Your beautiful voice is the perfect vehicle for these poignant lyrics.
Love the laconic delivery of the singing. Strong emotional message well delivered. Was it recorded live? Sound like it has that spontaneity
Found this in the recommendations thread and want you to know I enjoyed it.
