Lyrics
Something I'll be Doing Without By Gary Ray Knowland
Youre drinkin and I'm thinkin you aint much fun anymore Im buyin, you're still cryin Can't wait to head for the door
Don't tell me, what could be It just don't matter no more Hearts breakin, hands shakin, Won't let you hurt me no more
You're Something I'll be doin without I'm giving up some things than wear me down I'm writin down a list of things that make me frown You're Something I'll be doin without
One mornin, Storm warnin That's when I saw it so clear I'm hurtin', you're still flirtin' that's why I want you outa here
I'm flyin, I ain't buyin My mind is made up for sure Cool reflection, new direction It hurts me now but I'll endure
I love you baby but you just drive me crazy My life's a mess 'cause of you, I must confess And now I have no doubt You're something I'll be doin without.
You're Something I'll be doin without I'm giving up some things than wear me down I'm writin down a list of things that make me frown You're Something I'll be doin without
You're Something I'll be doin without I'm giving up some things than wear me down I'm writin down a list of things that make me frown You're Something I'll be doin without

If Hank Williams had been brought up in the last thirty years, he might well have written this. A perfect country song that draws on the tradition, but has very 21st values in the lyrics.
Love the first line of each verse, very clever. Great chorus, nice lift and rhythm. As always, wonderful production and you have a great vocal on this....Love it!!
Great stuff! Such a nice country sound with a really interesting chord progression. Saw a used pedal steel for sale the other day and got excited for a moment until I saw the price tag...
I like that line "You're something I'll be doing without" so much. The gentle kiss-off song...Is that a Lap Steel? It's great....And I love the harmonies - that kind of reinforce the idea that the singer has everything he needs all on his own.
Very well played and a I love the toe tapping that you have going for us.
Oh great intro - I love the bounce in the track and it is toe tapping time! Beautiful melody and vocals - excellent use of harmonies. Awesome steel guitar! The bass line sounds great, as well as the guitar and everything else you are doing in the track. A very memorable tune that is so well done I am on my second listen. Cool song topic and nice lyrics also.
this recording sounds so so good. I love this tune so much!! you are also incredible at the pedal steel
Love this! Good classic country rock music done extremely well. One of my favourite FAWM songs so far… Reminds me a bit of Buddy Holly, but edgier. Your voice is very cool. Really looking forward to hearing what else you come up with this month.
Nice work Gary, I'm a sucker for that honky tonk pedal steel!
I loved the listen, and steel guitar - the ultimate heart warmer - thank you. Looking forward for what else you might have!
Fantastic! Great song! I love the guitar work and steel guitar. What a great listen!
You're a whiz on the steel guitar! I just found your profile. I guess I haven't been searching hard enough. Good stuff!!
Oh my giddy aunt, when the harmonies came in I got a solid Michael Nesmith vibe. It does not get any better than that, good sir. Does not.
This whole thing could be Nez and his First National Band. Yup, this hillbilly is with all them other folks: this is how to do country.
Yikes that would be an interesting listen, This is classic country right down to the missing g’s at the end of words. Very well done
That's a good'un! It's country/western that's so cleverly written and performed, you got a new follower!
I listened once... I listened twice... I'm listening again and that's my advice!
This dang ol' country song just gets better every time I listen to it! I gotta agree with that stinky ol' possum that Hank Williams is rolling over in his grave with delight over this one! I mean gawddam Gary, you nailed this groove so hard! The melody is pure country delight and your vocals are superb along with them self-harmonies make this oh so good! And all that guitar sliding all around just puts a fine layer of goodtime classic country shine on this tune!
I guess what I'm a tryin' ta say is...I LOVE THIS SONG!
I'm grinnin' and You're winnin' This song would sure make ol' Hank proud
As an o'ffshial o'possum of the deep south, I hereby certifify and declaw that this here @grayland toon to be 101% authentic and 102% fantastic and 200% country-fried and it can't be denied (so don't even try)!
This here song is GOOD, boyz!
Man I've been thinking a lot lately about trying to do a sort of bluegrass/country song, and I want to feature that sort of lapsteel/slide guitar you have in this track. What exactly are you using for that slide guitar part? Your guitar playing is really great on this track. The solos are really well composed. Really dig this one!
