This song was started several years ago, as a collab between myself and a close lifelong friend and mentor, Billy Stewart. Sadly, Billy passed away before we could finish it, so I've dug it up, finished the song and recorded it. So this one is dedicated to Billy. RIP my brother.

Lyrics

Once Again by Billy Stewart and Gary Knowland

Here I am, wasting precious time when I Could be there loving you. Leaving you was the, biggest mistake I Ever made in my life.

And I want you to know That I love you so, and I can't go on Til I've held you In my arms Once again

I know I hurt you but, please forgive me and Let me make it up to you. I know I've done you wrong and stayed away too long but let me come home to you.

And I need you to know That I miss you so, and I won't go on Til I've held you In my arms Once again

Here I am, wasting precious time when I Could be there loving you. Leaving you was the, biggest mistake I Ever made in my life.

And I want you to know That I love you so, and I can't go on Til I've held you In my arms Once again

I could only dream that someone would finish a song I've started once I'm not there anymore. What a lovely idea and well executed. Enjoying the guitar solos. #tit4tat.

This is very well done. Finishing it is a nice tribute to your friend. so much hope in the lyrics. #tit4tat if you're doing that.

So full and well-realized! Loved the clarity of everything, I wish I had those skills, be it via DAW or otherwise. It's a beautiful 2nd life this song found, I'm sorry your friend couldn't hear this. It's a gorgeous tribute and piece that you two have concocted. Love those solos, it's a very float-y piece! Thank you for sharing this.

I love how this is kind of dark and melancholy, but yet there is a driving rhythm to it. The harmony is really nice and the guitar soloing is awesome. This is the kind of song that just pulls the yearning right out of me and I'm feeling it right along with you. This is an awesome write! I'm really glad that you were able to finish it! It's a really lovely tribute to your friend. #tit4tat

Very Nice. Smooth vocals and a Sweet lead guitar shines here. The music and lyric really flow well. Nice that you finished the Co-write under difficult circumstances. Enjoyed it. #tit4tat

What a great story behind the song, I bet your friend would be delighted you returned to it. I really enjoy the chord progression on the verse and the transition into the pre chorus especially. The guitar playing is something I'm very envious of, you get a great tone too! It might be my speakers but I only noticed the great bass playig towards the end of the song - great work!

I'm hearing a cross between Santana and Neil Young if his voice was sweeter. A lot of longing in this one, and so much yearning. Really like this one. #listeningskirmish

Whut a beautiful song! I'm sure your buddy Billy would be mighty impressed with what you did here! Again, you play some mighty fine guitar! Your vox just get better and better! Imma thinkin' that maybe ur a ringer! One of them Nashville types just hangin' around FAWM to have fun and show us all how songwritin' and singin' and producin' should be done!

This is really pretty Gary! I agree with @crisp1 that this song has a Santana feel to it! Especially that awesome lead guitar that reigns throughout the song! Every time it comes back it makes me tingle! With delight! (Yeah, that's right...your song made me tingle!) Your lyrics tell this broken hearted love story so very well! As I listened I think back on some of my own experiences that had mostly faded from memory! That, right there, is the mark of a great song. One that engages and connects with your listener and this one certainly does that in spades!

And I think it is so ultra cool that you finished the song that you and Billy Stewart started years ago! I am sure he would be tickled and delighted with the work you've done to get this one finished and polished up like a fine diamond in your 2025 FAWM collection! Excellent work!

@crisp1

It's got musical vibes reminiscent of Smooth by Santana and Rob Thomas, very well done. I think your friend would be very proud of you for completing this.

Wonderful song! A difficult write I suspect losing a friend who was part that write, no smart words today! I just really enjoyed it!
