Sing Hallelujah

Liner Notes
Dan Says: On the first day of FAWM, Hannah sent me a little voice memo snippet with some guitar and a bit of vocal... I sent back a set of lyrics and voice memo sketch... she send me back an even better revised set of lyrics and new sketched out version... then she made great guide tracks for the rest of the band to follow... And was nice enough to let me put together a full gospel band (Thanks Mason and Art!) and take this one to church. Then, she proceeded to record lead vocals and female choir. I pulled my friend Nathan out of FAWM-retirement to record the male choir parts. Mixing Mixing Mixing... and here we go. Thanks Hannah!
Hannah says: This has been a fun collab with Dan & Co! Been going on in the background for a few weeks now, and happy to officially post it now. Originally in my first voice memo, I pictured this song going in more of a pop direction, but once Dan sent me his original set of lyrics and voice memo sketch, it clearly wanted to become more of a full gospel number. (Personal note: As our church has been growing more multicultural over the past decade, and friends from my church family have included me in more gospel-style worship, I have grown to really admire and enjoy the genre. It was fun to explore some of that here.)
Hannah Busse - lead vocals and choir vocals Dan Vaillancourt - guitar, bass, tambourine, claps, a little bit of backing vocals, mixing, production Nathan Schleicher - choir vocals Artur Lenivenko - organ, piano Mason Rosenfeld - drums
Lyrics
Sing Hallelujah Words and Music by Hannah Busse and Dan Vaillancourt
I read the news today
and I can hardly say
that there’s any good there
It’s overwhelming,
I do what I can but
I’m just one woman
I feel so low, So low
On the Sea of Galilee
I wish I could believe
that I can walk on water
But I got my doubts
I feel like I’m drowning
Would you lift me up?
So High, So High, So high
Could I sing Ha ha ha - Le eh eh - Lu u u - Yah…
Started as a whisper but it grew louder Started alone but before you know it One voice was joined by many others There is a crowd here…
And I hear them singing... Ha ha ha - Le eh eh - Lu u u - Yah…
I started singing... Ha ha ha - Le eh eh - Lu u u - Yah…
We started shouting... Ha ha ha - Le eh eh - Lu u u - Yah…
We sang it out.. So High igh igh, So High igh igh So high So high
Let’s sing it louder, gonna lift it up (Ha ha ha, le eh eh) Let’s sing it louder, gonna lift it up (Lu u u, ya ah ah) Let’s sing it louder, gonna lift it up (Ha ha ha, le eh eh) Let’s sing it louder, gonna lift it up (Lu u u, ya ah ah) Sing Hallelujah!

I Used to play in a gospel band, and this brought up all sorts of great memories, but you have a lot bigger band sound than I remember our group ever had! Great song and fantastic vocals and harmonies.
I came here for the gospel fullband harmonies choir tags and holyyyyyy heellllll I am walking on water right now. So hiiiiiigh!! I needed this so much. This song is empowerment set to music, let's sing it louder!
Love all of the vocals. Organ brings the gospel vibe home.
A pleasure to hear a huge, professional production. Impressive!
Well, alright! This is quite a snappy, catchy tune. Love how it bounces along. Ooh...so high! That choir is great. Things get pretty hot there at the end
Fabulous song! Timely, relevant, relatable, and compelling! I love the introspection, vulnerability, and then.. yes… the empowering resolution! We are stronger together! This is so uplifting! And the energy and the sense of community support is wonderful. And wow! Those vocal lifts and noodles are incredible! This gets me up smiling dancing and singing!!!!
Wow, Hannah! You've got a quality to your voice on this song that I've just never heard from you before! I love it! This is a rip-roaring, toe-tapping, and altogether rousing bit of worship here. I want to be singing this over at Gospel Fusion sometime soon! Great job, everyone!
Reading your liner notes, I was really looking forward to listening to this, and it did not disappoint. Wow, you weren't joking about lifting high, especially with your voice - WOW. Amazing back up band, especially the organ (though I don't see that instrument listed, am I wrong?). Great energy, smooth and natural vocal while sounding otherworldy. Hallelujah indeed!
That is a wonderful hook, and the energy is catching. Love the vocal embellishments, the keys, and the buildup when that walking bass line comes in!
Wow, this makes my heart sing with joy. Love that low note and that high one too. Amazing! Love the group sing. Makes me want to dance and sing along. I truly can't sit still listening to this. I need this on my playlist!! You guys are awesome 💖💖🙏🙏
Such a fun one! Love it! A foot tapper for sure and builds nicely! Nice collaboration! Just needs some claps now! Somebody just went to church!
Wow! This is moving in the best way. Makes you want to sing along. Fantastic vocals and melody here. The music is inspiring too. Sounds so polished.
Take me to church! (ah, I see that @davidtaro already said that!) I'm feeling the spirit in this great song to get you dancing in the aisles. Tremendous collab here. More FOMO!
Fabulous! Normally I rant and carry on when I feel production is too much for FAWM creativity but can't do that here because I too have had things go on for weeks in the background before releasing them. And this would have been spoilt if you let it out before satisfied. Love the choir entries. The build-up is real gospel. So's the lyric, the melody the lot. I turned my headphones up to the point I guess I'll need paracetamol but hey, it was worth it!
This was utterly brilliant! I loved it and could absolutely hear my church singing it!
Great collab here. Really uplifting.
Wow! Love the song! Excellent work to all the band! Wanna sing when earing the song!
What a great process . . . and result! This is simply fantastic. Writing, presentation, arrangement. I was bouncing around, and then singing along! Love the prosody on "so high" and the sing-along-y part (including breaking down Hallelujah).
Hard not to sing along to this one! Ooh, the high-steppin groove of the final section. Great collab!
Hallelujah (raises hands)! This groove, the organ, the VOCALS, dang! Loved listening to this to start the day 💚
Well hey! This was a happy surprise out in the fields this morning (Mr Collie sang along). What a groove. Love the vibey organ, funk-gospel rhythm guitar, the low and high in the opening vocal lines, and the choir. Breaking up 'Hallelujah' into ecstatic 'aahs' and 'heys' and 'oohs' is genius. Why hasn't anyone ever thought of that before?!? And honestly, the verses that set up the background feeling before you take us to the Praise are spot on, a great launch pad for a higher place.
Take me to church! (Not sure I can pull that off btw…) this is all kinds of gospel grooviness. I mean, you had me at #fullband. Love the thud of the bass, and that classy piano that drifts in and out. Hannah’s clearly in her element here, leading the choir of mini-Hannahs and Nathans, and effortlessly pulling off some crazy vocal acrobatics (love the deep ‘looow’ and vertiginous ‘hiiiigh!’). And then you’ve got the big finale, which I believe is a contractual obligation in this kind of production. Definitely feel like I’m ready to start my week now - thanks all involved :)
Well. Damn. Sorry to curse, but this is just full of joy and uplifting spirit. The heart and the care. You only need to write this song to win the month as far as I'm concerned.
Perfect gospel song! Wonderful full-band groove, great vocals. This is a fantastic collab.
