Generational Gap

by @beto Mod · @wobbiewobbit

Liner Notes

@beto says: me and @wobbiewobbit were talking about all the new slang of the new generations; the expressions we don't understand ("#skibidi toilet from Ohio!") and the expressions we don't like (personally I hate "drop" for anything that is released). So we decided to write this song, with each part having slang from a different generation! 😆

Also, apparently I'm unable to sing the word "timidity"! 😆

@wobbiewobbit says: I knew what you meant ;)

Beto did the hardlifting in this! but i was glad we did it together from our initial seed of an idea in chat :) you sure are skibidi and i love your timidy

Lyrics

[verse, gen alpha] My nephew told me I was skibidi And said something about a toilet And something else about Ohio He made it all up, I bet!

[verse, millennial] Co-worker told me about an album Said it was gonna drop today He said the album was on fire? I don’t know how it's gonna play

[pre-chorus, gen alpha] Because I'm skibidi! Despite my timidity My sensitivity Gives me the ability to communicate

[verse, UK millennial] My neighbor came back from Majorca Holibobs chillaxing in Spain Cruising in a 50' bad boy Totes amazeballs know what I'm saying?

[pre-chorus, gen alpha] Because I'm skibidi! Despite my timidity My sensitivity Gives me the ability to communicate

[chorus, gen alpha] I've got the rizz, I am the sigma Kid please, it's no enigma I'm mewing, I look max Giga Chad is here, relax

[verse, genz] My girlfriend told me I was sus (big yikes!) Then she ghosted me for what? Lucky for me I have my fam They are the best — periodt ("peer-ee-uht")

[pre-chorus, gen alpha] I am so skibidi! Despite my timidity My sensitivity Gives me the ability to communicate

[rap, gen alpha] (my nephew was supposed to do this, but he didn't, so now I left the placeholder)

[chorus, gen alpha] I've got the rizz, I am the sigma Kid please, it's no enigma I'm mewing, I look max Giga Chad is here, relax

[chorus, millennial] I'm gonna drop it like it's hot Dude, don't tell me that it's not This album is dope, the best I got Everything I have I brought

[verse, self reflection] I'm getting old, I know 44, 60, 78 I just don't understand new generations But I know how to communicate

[repeat chorus]

Love the beat here. The lyrics are full of things I don't understand, but I see that's kinda the point. The metal interlude was perfect.

Wait, old, we’re not old, are we? I thought this song was Awesome and some of this new slang, well, gag me with a spoon! You guys have so much compassion for each other. what’s wrong with those kids?

@kosch

This amused me (and lost me here and there...haha)- truly sound like you cats (yes, I'm that old) had fun! This brought some memories of things I thought I had (safely) forgotten... 😆

[avatar]

nicely done. I don't try keep.up, when they start I go deeper into ancient slang! such a fun listen! and beto doing a bit Jonathan Richman.

[avatar]

I like the clean organ/electric piano(?) sound with the crunchy synth bass.

Favorite lines: "He said the album was on fire? I don’t know how it's gonna play" and "Totes amazeballs know what I'm saying?"

@wacha

This song is so much fun and as a Gen Xer, I can appreciate it's content so much. You've managed to create a song that complains without sounding like you're complaining. I am young enough to understand some of the Millennial stuff but that Gen Z stuff escapes me sometimes and I don't even try yo follow the Gen Alpha stuff.

This is a beautiful, lighthearted collab. Well done to both of you!

@tjeff

Funny! Love the back and forth of your vocals. Yep, there is so much slang that I don't get (if I really wanna know I can ask one of my sons who are 25 and 27 - they know it all!). I think "drop" and "chillax" are the only ones I'd ever heard of! Excellent collab!

[avatar]

If I didn't know what any of these terms meant I'm even less the wiser now. But yeah, I found this hilarious, especially as a two-hander with Beto's evident desperation and Wobbie's ironic asides playing off each other brilliantly. This is the kind of entertainment you only get in FAWM, and I'm so glad I found it.

@cts

Hahaha! Pretty fun tune y'all got workin' here. I had to scratch my head a few times only because I wasn't aware of the slang. I, too, try not to use whatever the latest slang is mainly because it's not my "generation speak", but I still try to communicate to the best of my ability. Communication is the goal, right? Y'all put together a song that is full of fun on y'all's part. That's what's so cool to me. I can hear the fun in the collab as well as the talent and creativity.

This is such a fun song. I’m only 30 and have no idea what most of these mean haha. The other day I did a songwriting workshop with 7th graders and I said “YOLO” trying to be hip with the kids and they had no idea what it meant 😂

[avatar]

Enjoyed this song and all its slang. No doubt some of us are falling behind on this. I love the change of pace about 2/3 of the way through. Nice work, guys!

[avatar]

You know you're getting old when your generation's slang doesn't even make it into a song about slang. Not groovy, but I guess it's cool? ;-)

I love this. Even if I've never encountered many of these expressions. That breakdown is hilarious!

[avatar]

This is so creative and fun. I especially like your pre-chorus, and that you sing it in unison, and then the commentary throughout. The album on fire bit is hilarious. I guess what I mean to say is, this song is SICK (yes I have kids haha).

[avatar]

This is HILARIOUS Oh the takedown of the modern slang

@beacon

Damn, how did I miss this one! This is making me so happy to hear from some of my favorite FAWMers. Such smart writing.

[avatar]

Bahaha this is great! So fun. Totes amazeballs indeed!

[avatar]

OMG, this is totes amazeballs from you two!! Grinning from ear to ear listening to this, and love the wee ad libs all the way through from @wobbiewobbit, had me chuckling! 🤩 Also kinda love the rap section even though it's just a placeholder...

[avatar]

This is adorable! I thought I knew slang pretty well, but the UK millennial verse was new to me. lol at the rapping placeholder!

[avatar]
@pfoo

This was really fun! I like what you both brought to this - super cool! And awesome. Is that Beto rapping in the placeholder? Wobbie's vocal additions made me smile.

[avatar]
@mikeb

I don't understand all the new phrases either!! A very fun collab!

[avatar]

Don't know why, but wobbie's interjections had me howling with laughter. The whole this is a catchy/funny delight. There's something about how you're not quite synced up that's charming. Dope rap interlude! I'm guessing you guys had some fun. I did

[avatar]

Such a funny song, I love it!

[avatar]

this works really rather well . . . think I'm jealous

@gm7

Super cool drum loop...great song concept. This was cool, fire, sick, jam and other gen names I don't know.

[avatar]

Ah, so many ways to communicate! This is fun.
