2025 is my 18th FAWM (I think). It was in my 1st or 2nd FAWM that I started the idea of FAWMku in January, to get the creative juices flowing. It has taken on a life of it's own and that makes me happy as a very small way to give back to this great community.
Thinking of posting as different band names this year from my list of potential band names list I keep in my phone.
Happy to collaborate if time allows. Collab list:

Hi Scott! Here's where I most reliably post music: https://soundcloud.com/kissiejr https://soundcloud.com/evinwolverton https://www.instagram.com/kissie.jr/
I celebrate taking a break! I needed to this year, after a few days in. I wish you (and me) balance!
Hi Scott. I popped by to hear what you've been up to, but I gather you've found FAWM a bit alienating this year. It's definitely a big city rather than a town these days, so I can understand where you're coming from. There are years I find this place less inspiring than others. But there are still plenty of the old townsfolk around who are glad to have you here. And if you can handle the smog, living in a city means there are always new people to meet. Anyway, all the best to you, mate, and I hope you find an outlet for your musical gifts that brings you happiness, here or elsewhere.
I have been in a silo of health challenges, physical and mental, and haven’t been out and about amongst the music as much this year. I had not even noticed that besides guitar on one collaboration you haven’t created something to share here this year.
I went through a phase about 10 years ago where participating in FAWM was damaging my emotional health, in a way that your comment reminds me of. After about three years of apathy, I realized that I had to choose whether I was going to withdraw completely or find a mentally healthy way to participate.
Since I returned wholeheartedly five or six years ago, the joy has come back to my songwriting and it has certainly helped me cope with the nonsense of epic proportions in the world around me. I hope whatever you decide for yourself re: FAWM that I might someday make use of your guitar skills to nudge one of my tracks over the top.
Hi Scott, sorry to hear you've become so disenchanted with FAWM. Although I wasn't quite in the groove this year, I still managed to get some songs written. I think there's still lots of great people (some I have come to consider good friends) making excellent music. Had a three video call with Phil Norman and Mike Debenham today and it was marvellous so I have FAWM to thank for that. Although you mentioned Spintunes, you didn't say if you'd signed up for it. If you did, I hope you can get some enjoyment out of that.
EF was always super busy. I asked a bunch of times too. I think I only got one, but it was fun.
I feel you. The dopamine addiction of checking for new comments is something I try to keep in check, but it's also part of the joy of FAWM for me: I can write a song and there's a reasonable chance someone actually listens to it! Like you say, it's a gift to bust a Zong and realize you are in the presence of new art. And yeah, the AI songs are disappointing, but I just skip them and move on. If anything, it makes my listening more insular to my watchlist, but after 19 years of FAWM I've got a big watchlist!
As for the politics, like you say, it's an outlet for me, a release valve. Creation is an act of resistance. All the fascists do is destroy, but the light of just one candle keeps the darkness at bay. And maybe my silly #thismachinekillsfascists songs get heard by someone who needed to hear them and it makes a small difference in one heart, or encourages another. So this little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine.
Thanks for the kindness. Be well, and maybe I'll see ya in the gulag.
Appreciate it. Too bad you're leaving, but I get it. I haven't been very committed this year myself and have been feeling like maybe I'm not getting the boost out of the challenge that I once did. But I'm not closing any doors as of yet. I'll give you a follow back and have a listen. Häxkvast is Swedish and means a witch's broom. No real story to it, I just thought it was an interesting word. Not the most marketable, though.
Sorry to see you go. You can always come back if you change your mind. I've enjoyed your comments throughout the years :)
I’ll take that hooverphonic comparison as a huge compliment :) thanks!! Means a lot
I'd be happy for you to give it a whirl! Let me know what you need from me, just the stems? Or I could send over the whole Logic project. Shoot me an email, listed on my profile.
Billy Smiley! Yeah, I haven't seen him in awhile but we still chat occasionally. It'd sure be fun to back over to Nash again.
Thank you for the very kind words. Yeah i don't do nearly as much guitar/rock/math-y stuff as I used to (my cat hates it when i play guitar, haha), and have been leaning hard into keys, MIDI, and dipping my toes into orchestral-adjacent stuff lately. Cheers, and happy FAWMing!
Thanks for the feedback on Reach Back! I think my ears were dead at that point, I can hear where I could have pushed the compression and gain on that vocal a bit more. It's always a fine line to get a quick and dirty mix to sit right!
I need to come to Colorado and drink a beer with you.
Hi Scott, thank you for the kind comment you left on my song Merope :) I am in awe you've been doing FAWM for 18 years! I'm on year 3 and can't wait to do this every Feb for life! Stay inspired!
Thanks for the kind feedback and for "feelin' it!"
Absolutely. My ex was from the North where they pronounce är as ‘ay-ah’ instead of ‘ahhhr’
You must be like me then, with several different keyboards on your phone! 😀 Thanks for your listen
haha i like that thread for spontaneous randomness. glad you like it, it has got a nice flavour!
re: Kofia. Both the verse and chorus start with a M7 and change to a m7 with the same root. BbM7 to Bbm7 and DM7 to Dm7.
Hey again Scott! Yeah we can give a collab a shot for sure, lemme know what you want to do! I think you have my email already...
Hi @scottlake I just sent you an email (you had mentioned adding guitar to my tune "Church Hill Road". It is an MP3 with the bass/voice/keyboard merged. I could explore sending the individual parts if that would be better. Thanks for the offer.
Thank for checking out "Falling off the World". I'm happy folks are digging it!
Send me some music! I’m really hoping to write a lot of lyrics this year.
Oo. Thanks for the suggestion re kinds music. Check our Parry Gripp if you're looking for other inspiration. If you find time for a quick collab then let me know ❤
Yeah it was my first username back in 2013 I think
We'll see on the Seaboard! I'll let you know.
Hooray for finding the capo before you bought a replacement!
Happy FAWM! I can’t remember if I used noisetrade back in the day but maybe you downloaded some of my music from bandcamp when I had a lot of music up at the time.
First, welcome back!! Second, how are you adding the images? (I always forget) Third…LOVE your art!!
I found this one with open signups. It gives you 30 GB to upload!
I'm going to give it a try!
Hi, Scott! I took my Funkwhale instance down, trying to save some costs. It was fun, and I might run again in the future, but it wasn't getting much use.
Welcome back! Have a great FAWM!
Enjoy FAWM25 Scott.
G'day Scott. Hope all's well with you. Have a great FAWM.
Hey Scott. Maybe we should finally do that collab this time around? I look forward to hearing what you come up with this month, my friend. Have a great FAWM !!
Your bass looks awesome. My first was a Maya P-bass which I still have. Have a nice fawm
Welcome back and happy FAWM! That’s a great looking bass and I’m sure you will have fun with it. Looking forward to hearing it. My first was a $90 JC Penny bass in 1979 (8th grade). SG shaped and about a 1/2” gap between the strings and neck. My second was a Peavey Fury in 10th grade which I still love.
Hey Scott if you're still around drop me an email [email protected]
