My Nights With Ian Payne
Skirmish: my nights with ___ (@fairplay)Liner Notes
an overtime skirmish but felt skirmishy to me.
Lyrics
4am i can see it from both ends is it late or early? 4am ian payne again peace from the hurly burly
lbc is good enough for me a bit of night time company callers from all round standing different ground it's a social symphony
he puts his foot in it funny way to look at it i find it gently amusing it's like he's born today how'd you get away with finding basic things confusing
4am ian payne again something mundane to latch onto i can't sleep at all so i listen to some calls tune in if you want to

Love the opening lines, can relate to looking at 4am as early or late. The sample at the start really sets it up with the 4am ian payne again. Liked the line "how'd you get away / with finding basic things confusing".
The sample is so genius for situating us in the time and place and vibe - love the way you come in too, dropping the song in like it was cued after/over the DJ. Your lyrics are great, a mix of genuine interest and vague sleepless boredom/apathy, and all put together it’s a real catchy song! What an awesome skirmish and song
Haha, love the sample at the start! That opening line ("I can see it from both ends") is brilliant! I've been meaning to listen to this guy since you told me about on a Zoom chat, but I haven't had the chance — it's too late for me! 😆
Love how you made a lovely song out of your radio habit!
Such a slice of Wobbie life. Great simple setting of this. The guitar and drum tracks work well, and your vocals are always awesome.
i dont know ian paynes, but ive had plenty of sleepless nights listening to call-in radio. i like the introduction very much, and how when you pop in it sounds like you are just waking up from a brief attempt at sleep.
Can’t sleep? If I listened to that guy and the callers, my blood pressure rising would surely stop me from getting any sleep, anytime soon. Too many people just want to be heard, and it just makes me angry. Liked the way to introduced the topic and presented it. Always a treat to listen to you.
I like the In Your Face attitude of the song. No-nonsense, put-that-in-your-pipe-and-smoke-it. Cool song!
…great intro! - great performance! - a really nice dynamic and a hint of sleepyness in the presentation with a touch of serenity overall -nice!…
ah one of our fav topic. you've done.it so well. ooo the radio voice. love it wobs
Love the broadcast start and the melodious song that follows which give us a glimpse about the show and the person watching it at 4 am in the morning. Some great lines and phrases “social symphony” “something mundane to latch onto” Lovely delivery!
Fun details to give shape to a character who I previously knew nothing about.
I wasnt sure you'd get the lyric in that minute and a half. But you sure did and it didn't feel rushed. Now I need to find Ian Payne on the radio!
Another brilliant write Wobbie. The opening line is perfect. Quite like the bouncy rhythmic phrasing. You are so good…
Wow, brilliant. What a great listen. I love the melody and the phrasing on this. Classic track!
...ouffh - the player does not load for me - will try tomorrow again - the lyrics promise something dynamic - i am looking forward to listen to this...
I had to look up Ian Payne lol. Great production and sound. Clever and humorous lyric, I enjoyed listening.
Not familiar with the name but I feel like I know him intimately now. There's a reason some people get the graveyard shift on radio, I guess. I used to be such a night owl when I lived in London. Reckon if Ian had been around then I'd be listening to him with you. I love that this song made me remember what the liminal space of late night radio is like.
